Frequently asked questions

These come up most often in a first conversation. If something here does not cover your situation, email me and ask.

Do you work remotely?

Yes. Nearly every client keeps records in a cloud accounting system, and close work does not require anyone to be in the building. I take engagements nationwide.

How do you charge?

I quote a fixed fee for defined work — a cleanup, a specific close, a technical memorandum. Where the scope cannot reasonably be determined up front, I bill hourly against a cap agreed beforehand, so the total cannot run past a number you have approved.

Will you work alongside our existing accountant or bookkeeper?

Often, and it usually works better that way. A bookkeeper who handles day-to-day processing well can still need support on a technical question or a close that has broken down. I am there to strengthen the existing team, not to replace it.

What size organization do you work with?

I work with organizations that have outgrown a bookkeeper but cannot yet justify a permanent controller. In practice that means meaningful transaction volume, several accounts to reconcile, and a close consuming more time than it should.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. I handle close support, cleanup and technical accounting. What I do is leave your records in a state your tax preparer can work from directly, which ordinarily lowers what they charge you.
